Best area to stay in Krabi Ao Nang: probably the most popular place in the Krabi area. Railay & Tonsai Beach: the remote area of Krabi , reachable only by boat. Nopparat Thara & Klong Haeng: a long shallow beach, very quiet, a perfect spot for a family holiday with kids or just a peaceful stay with a few sunset walks.
So if you have a choice or want to stay in one area more than the other, we would certainly recommend staying at Railay over Ao Nang , as long as your budget allows it, because staying on Railay Beach is significantly more expensive than staying near Ao Nang Beach.
Krabi Town is a good base for doing day trips to cool spots in that area, but I wouldn’t recommend it for a honeymoon. And if you want a beach location then I would probably recommend Railay Beach over Ao Nang .

The pier for longtail boats to Railay Bay (or Ao Nang ) was just a few minutes walk from the hotel. The trip to Railay is about 12km and took about 30 minutes on a lovely sunny morning with calm seas. Our boat arrived at a large floating pier at Railay Bay East – not much of a beach here, it’s mangroves and a bit muddy.
The boat ride from Ao Nang to Railay is just 10 minutes, you may also get a bit wet from the splash of the ocean depending on where you sit in the boat . You’ll get dropped off at Railay West Beach which is a really nice beach.
As for Krabi town , it is a relaxed place with great food. People do treat it as a staging point. There is nothing much to keep you there but it is pleasant and a good place to visit . I find the town charming and relaxed.
Travel agents will of course sell a 3 night stay in Krabi as “ 3 nights / 4 days ” but in reality, flight times mean you will only get 2 clear days in which to do activities. So the proposed itineraries reflect this, with 2 full days of excursions.
