Even though we greatly wished we could have stayed longer, 3 days was just enough time to visit some islands, get to know the villages and people and see beautiful sunsets. If you’re planning a trip to Thailand and Krabi is on your list of places to go, here is the itinerary of our 3 days in Krabi .
Krabi area or Phi Phi ? Well Railay/Ton Sai is visually more spectacular and has fewer hassles than Phi Phi . But snorkelling off the beach is not as good (although your Phi PHi daytrip from Krabi will take in the good snorkelling spots and visually spectacular areas).
The Phuket Krabi ferry route connects Phuket Island with Thailand and is currently operated by 2 ferry companies. The Phi Phi Cruiser service runs up to 7 times per week with a sailing duration of around 3 hours 30 minutes while the Tigerline Ferry service runs up to 14 times per week with a duration from 4 hr.
To get to Phi Phi , there are basically two options: ferries and speedboats. The ferry is by far the most popular method of reaching the islands . Ferries take about two hours from Phuket and 90 minutes from Krabi or Koh Lanta. The main departure/arrival port in Phuket is Rassada Pier, located in Phuket Town.
Some of the water is dirty, and not great for swimming, but the tour around the neighbour islands is well worth the trip. Phi Phi is gorgeous but the central part is very crowded with mostly unthinking package tourists. But hey go see for yourself. Definitely do a snorkel trip around the islands if weather’s good.
Which is better Phuket or Krabi ? A. If you are looking for a well-developed place with all the facilities then Phuket is the place to be. On the other hand, if you want to enjoy the bucolic nature and laze around in the natural setting then Krabi is the best choice.
It’s absolutely worth it staying in Phi Phi for a few days! For a day trip, you’ll only see the main things – Maya Bay, the Viking Cave, etc. But especially if you’re a fan of snorkeling, there are quite a few amazing spots and hidden beaches that are NOT crowded but still worth seeing.
Krabi is famed for its breathtaking karst landscape, and Tiger Cave Temple, or Wat Tham Suea in Thai, is a series of temples that includes a stunning Buddha statue just a mere 1,247 steps up to the summit of a mountain.
Krabi is slightly more expensive than other areas in Thailand ; however prices in general are much, much lower than in the West.
The best Krabi itineraries. Travel agents will of course sell a 3 night stay in Krabi as “ 3 nights / 4 days ” but in reality, flight times mean you will only get 2 clear days in which to do activities. So the proposed itineraries reflect this, with 2 full days of excursions.
Koh Phi Phi is one of the most expensive islands in Thailand, especially for budget accommodation. Even a bed in an 18-bed dorm room can cost you upwards of 1000 baht per night ($33).
Generally, Phi Phi is the place to be for more isolation and quieter vibes, while Phuket is the undeniable party scene of the two. Phuket is home to larger resorts and more amenities, while Phi Phi is great for those looking to disconnect and unwind from the rest of the world.
Spending two days in Phi Phi gives you the possibility to discover a fair amount of its most notable sites and attractions without rush or stress.
