Phi Phi is about 50km from Phuket, and all travellers usually cover this distance by ferry or speedboat. Ferries are cheaper and relatively fast; speedboats are faster, but pricier. Ferries run four times a day, only until 3pm, from Phuket’s Rassada Pier in Phuket Town to Tonsai Pier in Phi Phi .
Some of the water is dirty, and not great for swimming, but the tour around the neighbour islands is well worth the trip. Phi Phi is gorgeous but the central part is very crowded with mostly unthinking package tourists. But hey go see for yourself. Definitely do a snorkel trip around the islands if weather’s good.
Walk – There are no taxis or buses on Ko Phi Phi , so you ‘ll be mostly walking everywhere! It’s not a huge island , so you ‘ll be okay using man power to get around .

If you’re feeling energetic, it’s a brisk 20 minute walk and if not you can have a leisurely 30 minute stroll to the top. The journey up isn’t difficult at all, the path is well trodden and paved most of the way. There’s plenty of places to rest if need be.
Phi Phi Island has a very chilled vibe and the dress code on the island is very relaxed as opposed to staying on the mainland. It’s acceptable to walk around in swimsuit, bikinis, and shorts during the day.
The only inhabited island , Koh Phi Phi Don, is car and motorbike-free. Everyone walks or cycles and everything is a 10-minute walk away. This makes it possibly one of the safest places in Thailand. If you’re having a party on a beach, the skipper of the boat that brought you shouldn’t be drinking cold beers.
There are a few different species of sharks which can be spotted around Koh Phi Phi . You don’t need to be afraid, there are no dangerous species of sharks around Phi Phi Islands . Mostly the sharks here are very timid. There is no other place in Thailand where you can spot reef- sharks just from off beach snorkeling.
THE BEACH IS CROWDED Once you’re at Phi Phi , it’s easy to reach Maya Bay. Maya Bay has a crowd and the corals are more or less destroyed by the many boats that sail through the bay every day. But it doesn’t change the fact that it is a beautiful beach.
Most travellers consider November to February the best time to visit Phuket , when days are mostly sunny and dry – ideal if you’re planning to spend lots of time on the beach. The wet season runs from May to October, when the south-west monsoon brings higher levels of rainfall and humidity.
