Koh Samui . Best island for: an all-rounder Thai island for first-timers, families and honeymooners. Phuket . Best island for: partying, uber-cool pool villas and serene nooks. Koh Lanta . Best island for: peaceful bohemian vibes and adults-only holidays. Koh Phangan . Koh Samet. Koh Phi Phi . Koh Yao Yai & Koh Yao Noi.
Getting to Phi Phi Island is pretty easy. This group of six islands is located 46km from Phuket and roughly the same distance from Krabi . The ferry is by far the most popular method of reaching the islands . Ferries take about two hours from Phuket and 90 minutes from Krabi or Koh Lanta.
Phuket is an island with many resort areas, Pattaya is a city. Phuket is more expensive in almost every respect than Pattaya , but Phuket’s beaches are far superior, in fact the beaches in the centre of Pattaya are not suitable for swimming as the water is not clean. Phuket has better beaches but higher costs.
Both islands have some of the world’s most beautiful beaches so traveler’s choice will depend on their interests and what they want to get out of their holiday. For a social whirlwind or surfing, Phuket is the better choice. But for a relaxed holiday by the ocean or for snorkeling, Samui is the winner.
Koh Samui is one of the most expensive destinations in Thailand, and is ideal if you have a higher budget and your trip falls between January and August. If you have a standard budget and are going between November and April, Krabi is a better bet.
A Guide to Chiang Saen , the Oldest City in Thailand When exploring magical northern Thailand, don’t overlook the oldest city in the country. A small river town that straddles the borders of Thailand, Myanmar and Laos, Chiang Saen is teeming with temples and steeped in centuries of history.
Koh Phi Phi is one of the most expensive islands in Thailand, especially for budget accommodation. Even a bed in an 18-bed dorm room can cost you upwards of 1000 baht per night ($33).
It’s absolutely worth it staying in Phi Phi for a few days! For a day trip, you’ll only see the main things – Maya Bay, the Viking Cave, etc. But especially if you’re a fan of snorkeling, there are quite a few amazing spots and hidden beaches that are NOT crowded but still worth seeing.
Some of the water is dirty, and not great for swimming, but the tour around the neighbour islands is well worth the trip. Phi Phi is gorgeous but the central part is very crowded with mostly unthinking package tourists. But hey go see for yourself. Definitely do a snorkel trip around the islands if weather’s good.
There are many destinations in Thailand, but Phuket remains one of the most popular . The gorgeous beaches with their breathtaking sunsets, the warm climate all year, the vibrant nightlife and the friendly people certainly make it desirable. Its history of welcoming foreign traders also plays a central role.
Average stay: Phuket is relatively expensive as an average hotel stay for 2 people in a 3 or 4-star hotel costs around 10000 THB. Krabi , for the same costs around 5000 THB. Places to stay: If you want a more sophisticated option to stay, then obviously Phuket is better .
Is Pattaya More Than Its Seedy Reputation? Pattaya , Thailand just can’t seem to shake its reputation as a hub for sex tourism and prostitutes in Thailand. Whether one seeks girls, boys or “third sex” ladyboys, Pattaya is among the most notorious spots in Asia for prostitution.
Samui is a very safe destination to visit, but like all places that attracts large crowds, problems can occur if you’re not aware of them beforehand. Most of these potential scams and hazards are fortunately already pretty well-known and may even sound obvious to experienced travellers.
Pathumwan is a mix of local and foreign residents in academics, the medical profession, diplomats at foreign embassies, business professionals and a sprinkling of wealthy retired people who keep pied-à-terres in Bangkok. “Some of Thailand’s wealthiest families live in Pathumwan,” Mr. Skevington said.
Ideally, if you want to combine a bit of culture, sightseeing, relaxing and enjoying the water and maybe the surrounding islands, I would recommend spending four days in Koh Samui and this itinerary is just a great way to get started in planning your trip.
