Kata beach is a very safe place for tourists to be. Locals are warm, friendly and welcoming, and are proud of their gorgeous part of the world and the tourism it attracts.
Kata Beach , on the west coast of Phuket island, is one of the most visited beaches after Patong Beach . Kata enjoys a lovely sandy bay with an incredibly blue sea and an iconic island standing in the middle of the ocean, making excellent sunset photos.
As the title of my review suggests, Kata Beach is great for sun, sea and surf. The water is clean and great for swimming in. There’s surf if you fancy renting a surf board, lessons are also available from surf instructors. The beach is also very clean and has Golden sand.
Karon is more spread out (it is a much longer beach ) and quite a bit lower pace than Kata . You could easily find things to do (food, night life, etc.) at either, but you will find more ‘activity’ in Kata and more ‘quiet’ in Karon .

No marine life encounter is guaranteed but the chance of snorkeling with sea turtles whilst in Thailand is pretty high. Turtles can be seen almost anywhere, the most common places are the Similan Islands (mooring rocks, island number 9), the Surin Islands and the Phi Phi Islands.
The distance between Phuket Airport (HKT) and Kata Beach is 32 km . The road distance is 46.3 km.
Rawai Beach , at the south end of Phuket island, is not a beach suitable for swimming , but it offers beautiful views on the nearby islands and has a peaceful local atmosphere. It’s a great place to enjoy some excellent seafood by the ocean, and a good starting point to do some island hopping.
Both islands have some of the world’s most beautiful beaches so traveler’s choice will depend on their interests and what they want to get out of their holiday. For a social whirlwind or surfing, Phuket is the better choice. But for a relaxed holiday by the ocean or for snorkeling, Samui is the winner.
Yes, there are sharks in Phuket . Phuket is blessed with most docile and placid sharks possible. From the teddy bear like Leopard Shark to the gigantic and graceful Whale Shark there is no better place in the world to fall in love with sharks . Shark attacks on divers are extremely rare throughout the world.
