So, should you go to Koh Mak ? Probably not. Sure, if you’re on an extreme budget and you aren’t too fussy with your beaches, it could be a fun place to hang out for a while.
Koh Mak is connected to the mainland via a pier in Laem Ngop, south of Trat, operated by several speed boat companies. It is linked to the nearby islands Koh Kood , Koh Chang, and Koh Wai by speed and slow boats (October through May).
There is no direct connection from Phuket to Koh Mak . However, you can take the bus to Bangkok Mochit Bus Terminal, take the walk to Mochit 2 Bus Depot, take the bus to Opposite Kong Salak, take the walk to Khaosan Road, then take the bus and ferry to Koh Mak .

Travel distance from Bangkok to Koh Kood is totally about 350 km by bus and ferry via Trat town. The best and fast option how to reach Koh Kood from Bangkok is to take a direct flight to Trat Airport and from Trat port you can travel by ferry to Koh Kood.
Getting to Koh Mak from Bangkok Flight, Taxi & Boat: Fly from Bangkok to Trat by Bangkok Airways. Bus, Taxi & Boat: Bangkok – Trat – Laem Ngop Harbor – and boat to Koh Mak . Minibus + Boat: Another option would be to take an air-conditioned mini bus from Khaosaan road in Bangkok or from your hotel, and drive straight to Laem Ngop (Krom Luang pier).
If you are going to Koh Mak , then take one of the ferries from Koh Chang to the mainland. Once at a mainland pier, take a shared pick up truck taxi that is heading to Trat. They will do a short detour to drop you off at Krom Luang pier, Laem Ngop. Expect to pay 40 – 50 Baht per person.
There is no direct connection from Bangkok to Ko Kham . However, you can take the bus to Ao Thammachat Pier, take the walk to Ao Thammachat Pier, take the car ferry to Ko Chang, take the taxi to Ko Chang, then take the ferry to Ko Kham .
Koh Chang beaches are arguably some of the best beaches I’ve come across in Thailand. I said if you wanted to just lay on the beach for a week, you should do it. Even if the beach is not your thing, you should spend at least one day exploring the many beautiful Koh Chang beaches.
Koh Chang Thailand is a fantastic place to visit – there are many incredible things to do in Koh Chang and this is easily one of the nicest Thai islands. There are so many islands in Thailand, all of them beautiful and different from one another, that deciding where to go can be a daunting task.
Ko Chang is an incredibly safe place to backpack and travel — even if you’re traveling solo and even as a solo female traveler. Violent attacks are uncommon.
