On January 25, 1942, Thailand , a Japanese puppet state, declares war on the Allies. When war broke out in Europe in September 1939, Thailand declared its neutrality, much to the distress of France and England.
Thailand in World War II officially adopted a position of neutrality until the five hour-long Japanese invasion of Thailand on 8 December 1941 which led to an armistice and military alliance treaty between Thailand and the Japanese Empire in mid-December 1941.
From the start of the Pacific war, the Imperial Japan was eager to invade British colonized Malaya and Burma. It was because of their “clever” that Japanese requested it prior to directly invading them. The British didn’t invade Thailand because they were clever to co-operate with them.

Thailand was never colonized by Europeans. Thailand managed this feat by selectively ceding some Malay territories to the British and through the clever use of negotiations. During WWII, Thailand was allied with Japan, so technically it was never conquered .
The name Siam came from a Sanskrit word, syam. A forceful nationalist and moderniser, he changed the country’s name to Thailand . The change was part of Phibun’s determination to bring his people into the modern world and at the same time to emphasise their unique identity.
Thai people , Central Thai (Thai: ชาวไทย ) or Siamese (Thai: ชาวสยาม; historically and sometimes domestically), in a narrow sense, are a Tai ethnic group dominant in Central and Southern Thailand ( Siamese proper).
U.S.-THAILAND RELATIONS Thailand is a key U.S. security ally in Asia. Since World War II, the United States and Thailand have significantly expanded diplomatic, security, and commercial relations. The first documented contact between the United States and Thailand was recorded in 1818.
It is known that Thailand in 1940 (after the fall of Paris and establishment of Vichy government) assaulted nearby French colonial possessions in an attempt to restore own sovereignty. The main purpose of the Japanese invasion of Burma was to cut the Burma Road, the one remaining land supply route to China. With Rangoon and the southern coast in their hands the Japanaese would then be able to advance north up the main Burmese river valleys.

Historically, Siam fought a successful war against Vichy-France in 1940 to 1941, reclaiming some territory and then joined the Axis due to the landing of Japanese personel on the 8th of December 1941.
