Ko Samet (Cajeput Island; Thai : เกาะเสม็ด, Thai pronunciation: [kɔ̀ʔ samèt]) is one of the eastern seaboard islands of Thailand . It is in the Gulf of Thailand off the coastline of the Thai province of Rayong, approximately 220 kilometres (140 mi) southeast of Bangkok.

Flights to Koh Samet from Bangkok. Because Koh Samet is only 220 kilometers ( 137 miles ) southeast of Bangkok there is no point in trying to get there by air.
Even though cars are not allowed on to Koh Samet , there are parking service on the mainland at “Ao Prao Pier,” exclusively for hotel guests, where you can leave your car and ferry /speed boat to the island. Buses frequently leave Bangkok’s Ekamai Bus Terminal to Ban Phe where the piers to the island are located.
How to Get to Koh Samet . You can easily make your own way to the island by taking a public bus, minibus, or private taxi southeast from Bangkok to the Nuan Thip Pier in Ban Phe, just outside of Rayong. The drive takes between 3 – 4 hours, depending on how stupendous Bangkok’s traffic is on that particular day.
Where is Khanom? The Khanom district is a part of Nakhon Si Thammarat, next to Surat Thani along the Gulf of Thailand. It’s actually really close to Koh Samui , and but we found our way to Khanom by taking a 1 hour 45-minute flight from Singapore to Krabi, and then taking a 3-hour bus ride to get to Khanom.

Bus from Pattaya to Koh Samet In Rayong you need to take a Songthaew to Ban Phe port from where you can take the ferry to Koh Samet , this Songthaew should be around 25-30 Baht per person. There are several minivans that can bring you from Pattaya directly to the Pier at Ban Phe in approximately one hour.
Both islands have some of the world’s most beautiful beaches so traveler’s choice will depend on their interests and what they want to get out of their holiday. For a social whirlwind or surfing, Phuket is the better choice. But for a relaxed holiday by the ocean or for snorkeling, Samui is the winner.
Koh Samet has significantly less rainfall than other Thai destinations but visitors get soaked anyway – in the sea. Only a three-hour drive from Bangkok and about 45 minutes by ferry from Ban Phe Pier on the mainland, the island is usually packed with visitors on weekends and long holidays.
